Aston Villa Made it This Far in Fa Cup

Aston Villa made it though to the fourth round of the FA Cup after getting past Gillingham 2-1. They were paced with a pair of goals by James Milner.

This marks only the second time in the last eight years Aston Villa has made it this far in FA Cup action.

Milner tallied the winner with less than 15 minutes to go in the game with a penalty kick after Adam Miller was called for a foul on Ashley Young in the box.

Manager Martin O’Neill made it clear his side was serious about the FA Cup as he made only three changes from his Champions League lineup that beat Hull. Although Luke Young, Gareth Barry and Gabriel Agbonlahor sat out, the Villa side was still very strong and Gills did well holding up in the match.

The Gills put a scare in their Premier League opponents by evening the score 12 minutes into the second half. It was a well fought battle for Gillingham.

West Ham travel across London to the cauldron of Stamford Bridge today and have little chance of defying their 12/1 odds to beat Chelsea. Since West Ham’s re-promotion to the top flight in 2005/06, Chelsea have won all six league meetings between the sides and are 1/4 with BetUK to win again today.

With just four goals in six away games under former Chelsea player turned West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola, coupled with Chelsea’s defensive record against non-big four sides, and the chances of a home shut out look likely.

Volvo Will not Follow Aston, Jaguar, Land Rover

After recording a loss of $12.7 billion last year, the Ford Motor Company is looking at every possible solution to bolster its sagging financial coffers. Earlier this year, the company has already sold the ultra-luxury brand Aston Martin to a consortium led by Formula One team boss David Richards. Earlier this month, the two British brands Jaguar and Land Rover were also put into the auction block by the Dearborn-based car manufacturer.

While Jaguar and Land Rover are already being auctioned off, Ford claims that the Swedish brand Volvo will not be sold alongside the British brands. In fact, the company said that Volvo will not be for sale any time soon.

The announcement came at the manufacturing launch of the Ford Taurus. The company’s top officials stated that Volvo is an integral part of Ford’s operation now that selling it for immediate cash will not be beneficial for the car manufacturer.

“Volvo is pretty integrated into Ford right now,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas. Fields is currently heading the turnaround plan that Ford is pushing through to bring the company back to profitability. Before being tasked with that, Fields led the Premiere Automotive Group (PAG). PAG is the collection of European car brands acquired by Ford through the years. With his stint as the head of PAG, Fields knows which brand/s is/are beneficial to the company at this point in time.

Eighty percent of Aston Martin was sold earlier this year for $848 million as part of Ford’s turnaround plan named the Way Forward. Aside from selling Aston Martin, and auctioning off Jaguar and Land Rover, the Way Forward also includes closing down of plants and workforce reduction. The company announced that the turnaround plan involves closing down 16 assembly facilities, elimination of 44,000 jobs and revitalizing the Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln nameplates.

Ford’s Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally said that the review of the two brands being auctioned off will be completed soon. According to experts in the field, the two British brands may fetch a price of as high as $8 billion.

As for Volvo, Fields said that they have been integrating the Swedish company in the core operations of Ford. The integration of the foreign brand to Ford is an effort to remake the image of Ford to make it a leader in car safety. It is known that Volvo vehicles with their Volvo auto parts are some of the safest cars in the world. With the collaboration between Volvo and all other brands under FoMoCo, safety is being promoted.

This integration is evident in the designing of the new Ford Taurus. Ford engineers looked for inspiration and help from the Swedish brand to make the Taurus a safe car. The result of the collaboration gave the Taurus a Top Safety Pick distinction from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In order for a vehicle to get that distinction, it needs to post “good” ratings in front, side, and rear crash protection. The Ford Taurus scored “good” ratings in all crash tests. The Taurus’ safe car construction is made possible by the presence of crush zones integrated into the car. These crash zones are also being used by Volvo vehicles.

Fields summarized the company’s position on the non-sale of Volvo by saying: “At the end of the day, you have to do what is right for the business.”

Classic Cars – Aston Martin DB5

The Aston Martin DB5 is an icon of the British car industry, and has been immortalised in history thanks to its appearance in several James Bond films. Launched in 1963, it is a British classic and almost half a century later it remains Aston Martins most famous car. The DB series was in fact named after David Brown who was the head of Aston Martin from 1947 through to 1972, and the sleek styling along with the cars success is a credit to himself and his team of stylists and engineers.

The car driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger, which was the DB5’s first appearance in a James Bond film was actually also the original DB5 prototype. Infamously, this car is currently missing having been stolen from the last genuine owner in Florida during 1997. Let’s hope he had some quality classic car insurance in place! After appearing in Goldfinger, DB5’s went on to appear in Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and Casino Royale. It was also to appear in The World is not enough as a cameo role, although the scene didn’t make the final cut.

The Aston Martin DB5 was essentially an evolution of the DB4 which it replaced. The DB5 had a longer wheel base and increased weight, but this was offset by the increased engine capacity which raised the power of the base model to 282bhp, and the top of the range DB5 Vantage generated 325bhp. The very earliest models only provided the choice between a rather limited 4 speed manual gearbox or a 3 speed automatic. However, shortly after release a sporty 5 speed gearbox was implemented, and became standard across the range. The DB5 was very much a sports car, but in true Aston Martin style it also provided an element of luxury with electric windows as standard, and the option of air conditioning.

Owners of such a car should use a special classic car insurance broker, and conduct a car Insurance Comparison online to find the best insurance quotes

The Aston Martin Owners Club (AMOC, pronounced aim-moc) is one of the oldest one-make car enthusiast clubs, one of the largest with worldwide membership and one of the leaders.
It was the late Mortimer Morris-Goodall, ort to many friends, who started it all. Having been fired with enthusiasm by an International bought when brash lad of some 20 summers and by his first meeting with ert Bertelli shortly after, his success led to the purchase of the team car LM7 and an invitation to drive nder works control at Le Mans in 1933. His reverence for ert and his Astons prompted the thought that almost everyone else who had the good fortune or sense to own an Aston felt the same and ow nice it would be to meet some of these people.
S.C.H. (ammy) Davis agreed that an Aston Martin Owners Club would be a good idea and inserted a note in The Autocar (of which he was Sports Editor) of 3 and 17 May, 1935, calling a meeting. The 20 or 30 people who turned up on 25 May also agreed and elected a committee which included Lance Prideaux-Brune, Dick Anthony, Maurice Falkner, Harold Bevan, Miss Dorothy Bean and Peter Cadbury.
Charles Jarrott was persuaded to become the President and Sammy Davis the Vice-President, with Leslie Keevil as Honorary Treasurer and Mort Goodall as Honorary Secretary. The Club activities, mostly social, including an annual dinner-dance at the Park Lane Hotel, were brought to a close by the Second World War.
The process started again at a meeting led by Dick Stallebrass at the R.A.C. on 5 March, 1948. However, following his tragic death at Spa only four months later, Dudley Coram started to play a leading role in the re-formed Club, with Eric Cutler as Chairman. At one time or another, Coram served in every capacity in the Club before he died in 1976.
Although the pre-war archives have been lost, the present rules are believed to enshrine the same principles as those drafted in 1935. Our Memorandum of Association provides, inter alia, that the Club is established to romote the sport and pastime of motoring, evelop interest in the ASTON MARTIN CAR and ncourage social intercourse between Members. The Club, in the UK, puts on some five race meetings a year, at least one hillclimb and three sprints. Worldwide, the Club is represented on most continents, with thriving sections in Germany, Holland, Switzerland and the USA. Other countries have a smaller representation which are no less enthusiastic. These groups also entertain their fellow Members with various events.
[1995 saw the Club celebrate its Diamond Jubilee. The traditional annual events all took on a Jubilee focus and were supplemented by other special attractions, both local and national as well as international, some 30 in all. The year kicked off with the Grand Jubilee Ball at the Dorchester Hotel, London, The party-goers enjoyed the spectacle of a grand display of Aston Martin cars. They were welcomed by an Aston Martin DB7 exhibited outside the Ballroom. Inside, cars with chassis numbers 1914; 1925; D5/569/S; C7/719/U; LML/50/396 and DB5/2261/R were all arranged on specially constructed stands.
A silver Diamond Jubilee Virage Volante made a fitting isplay case for a million dollars worth of Cartier jewellery! The AGM saw our President, Lord Downe, receive the Club premier award, the Bertelli Trophy. Another highlight, was the Founders Day Dinner at the Grafton Hotel where, on the 25th May 1935, the Club was formed. With a limitation on space, it is not possible to detail all the other events however, the special displays at the St. John Horsfall and the Historic Weekend at Silverstone were remarkable.
he Family as the late Viscount Downe worded his toast to the Club sixtieth year, has continued to meet at the Club social and competitive events and stay in touch through its publications, AM Quarterly and the News Sheet which have carried reports of the many Club events around the world as have the publications that originate in other parts of the world.
Every four years, a Register of Members Cars is published and has become the tandard work on the Marque. The Aston Martin Heritage Trust, now has the responsibility for publishing this work.
Enthusiasm coupled with the right people continues to ensure that the Club thrives, just as the same combination has enabled our marque to survive from the early days of the motor car. The fingers of only one hand are enough on which to count Aston Martin Brooklands contemporaries in the 1920s that remain in production!
May 23 1997, was a ed letter day for the Club with the unveiling by Lady Paula Brown and John Martin of the Cairn, erected in memory of Lionel Martin, at the top of Aston Hill in Buckinghamshire. The inspiration of the Club Chairman, Ian MacGregor, this memorial was designed by Member John Evans and constructed on Forestry Commission land with support from the Club and AML Ltd.

Aston Martin Builds New Test Center

Aston Martin may not be filling the Internet’s news sites with updates and new cars almost every day but for some people, they believe that the car brand is certainly taking its time and working on its updates slowly, surely, and silently. And that may be for a good purpose for when they have completed their goal, they should be able to work on their press release and announce to the public the finished product of their months of silence.

We have learned a couple of months back that Aston Martin already had opened the very first design studio which was purposefully built. It was created in their headquarters in Warwickshire and it is already running and is operational. At present, The Auto Channel had reported that they were going to be launching a new project for their brand and that would be through the building of a new test center which they would be able to utilize. The report continued that Aston Martin would be putting in the foundation of the new test center in Germany’s Nurburgring race circuit.

At present, reports have it that the planned test center for their vehicles has already had the foundations put in and work is already going on. A building already in the area would be improved and transformed so as to be able to have their test center ready and available for use by May this year. That would only be a couple of months away but if Aston Martin would be focusing on this project right now, they may complete the test center ahead of schedule.

“When we open the Aston Martin Nürburgring Test Centre at the end of May this will be our second major new facility in less than 12 months since the company entered new ownership. The Nürburgring has played a vital part in improving the performance and durability of all modern Aston Martins. Our new test centre will allow us to further increase the performance of our cars and to share something of the unique Nordschleife experience with our customers,” Dr. Ulrich Bez, chief of Aston Martin, shared.

With the new test center operation by May, Aston Martin may be able to check out all the parts that they vehicles would be having – from the engine to the MSD Pro-billet distributor to the catalytic converters and to everything else in between – without much hassle. The joys of owning a facility such as this.

Aston Martin Vanquish

The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish or just Vanquish lived a short, illustrious, and limelight filled era, and spanning just 7 years, from 2001-2007. This level of elegance and distinction could never be misconstrued for anything or anyone else, because it screamed outstanding performance, and timeless looks from the new car on the block.

It was the forerunner of the Virage/ V8 Vantage, and was based on the theories of two concept cars, the Bertone Jet 2, and the Zagato Roadster; both were presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2004. The Vanquish’s stint in the limelight came from being the official car in the twentieth James Bond movie “Die Another Day”, after that the Aston Martin Vanquish became one of the most popular, and easily noticeable vehicle, it was the car on everyone’s lips. It was Aston Martin’s prime, emblematic, production car for the 7 years of its life. It was created by Ian Callum and it is in the “grand tourer” class, and is manufactured by “Aston Martin Lagonda Limited”. Unfortunately, it was dropped in 2007 and would be temporarily replaced by the “Aston Martin DBS V12″ as Aston Martin’s pendant vehicle until 2010, when a permanent replacement will be made.

The Vanquish’s core force consisted of “5.9 litre (5935cc), 48-valve, 60º V12 engine” outputting a max power of 460bhp (343kW) at 6,500 rpm along with a torque of 542 N·m (400 ft·lbf), running at 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, succeeding a top speed of 186mph. A “fly-by-wire” throttle with a six speed “clutchless, sequential, manual transmission” directs the control system for the engine. The braking system on the otherhand includes 355mm (14in) ventilated and drilled disc brakes that have ABS, containing electronic brake distribution.

The Vanquish’s engine mechanics is almost exact to the blueprint and components of the “3.0 litre Duratec 30 V6″, even down to the last stroke and bore specifications. The car possesses a FR layout along with the basic Coupe body style, the Vanquish dimensions were carefully crafted; a length of 4666mm (184in); a wheelbase of 2690mm (106in); a height of 1318mm (52in); a width of 1923mm (76in); and a curb weight of 1835kg (4045 lbs).

The Aston Martin Vanquish car was altogether unmodified until 2005 rolled around, when the second model came out by the name of the Aston Martin Vanquish S, which was introduced at Paris Auto Show in 2004. The changes that came with this model was the increase in strength and more power all round, elegant styling changes, and all new 19 inch wheels. They also gave a choice to opt for a sportier appearance and performance with the “Sports Dynamic Pack” with potent braking features, powerful, sportier suspension, and refined steering capabilities. The engine, 6.0 litre V12 was masterminded by Ford and outputted a max power of 520bhp (388kW) at 7000 rpm, along with a torque of 577N m (426ft lbf), increasing 0-62mph at 4.8 seconds achieving a top speed of 200mph. The Vanquish S braking system was stronger than that of the Vanquish with 378mm (15in) situated at the front and 330mm (13in) positioned in the rear rotors.

The production of the Aston Martin Vanquish’s ended officially on the 19th, July 2007, and that signaled the end of a master. Aston Martin also issued that the production of the last 40 cars would be under the stage name of the “Vanquish Ultimate Edition”, having an enigmatic “Ultimate Black” exterior, elegantly done interiors, with tailor-made sill plaques inserted into the dash. The Vanquish is an instant classic, and will always have its critics, but will always have its fans.

Jaguar to Stay…aston Martin to Go

Great news for Jaguar fanatics: Ford President Mulally has recently announced that Jaguar is no longer for sale. Aston Martin however, will be under a new owner by the end of this year.

Mulally, who joined Ford last year after working for 37 years at plane-maker Boeing, told reporters, “Jaguar is not for sale at this time” —this statement of the new boss doesn’t necessarily mean that they are closing the possibility for future Jaguar sale. CEO Mulally just wants to give Jaguar a chance to fully re-establish itself and the new XF sports sedan is going to be used as the key model in revitalizing the range of Jaguars.

The XF sports sedan has made its worldwide debut at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show as a concept car but according to managing director Bibiana Boeiro the car would be produced by early 2008, as replacement for the S-Type. It will also be using the XF nameplate and will be equipped with only top-of-the-line Ford auto parts like Ford tie rod end.

The C-XF is a design venture between Jaguar design director Ian Callum and advanced design studio boss Julian Thompson. The C-XF was the sort of car Jaguar that Ford should have been making for some time. This car represents a break from the overt retro styling of the XJ, S-Type and X-Type models, using clever design cues to create a new look for the struggling Jaguar brand.

According to Callum the design philosophy behind the XF is: “Sports sedans were Jaguar’s mantle with cars such as the Mk2 and Series 1 XJ of the 1960s – and we’re having it back! But we’re not harking back to another era for the sake of it. Instead we need to recognize design elements and move forward in a modern and contemporary way.”

He further stated that the car’s core design values were “purity, visual dynamism and beauty” and the low roof and wedge-shaped lower body of the XF gives the impression of visual latent power. The interior features a very different take on Jaguar’s traditional wood and leather finish. The XF still makes use of the wood and leather finish but the wood has been scorched black while the leather has been treated to look more like carbon fiber. It’s definitely far from the burr walnut and cream Connolly hides.

The XF is just one of the series of new cars under development that will replace all three Jaguar salons by the end of the decade. By the year 2009 a new breed of XJ Jaguars will be produced and said to be more radical than the XF. The rumored Land Rover Freelander–based crossover vehicle that will replace the X-Type is also coming as confirmed by Jaguar executives during the Detroit Auto Show.

Uk Chooses Aston Martin As Coolest Brand

The British have chosen which brand is going to be declared the coolest. And during the very exclusive event CoolLive which was held around a week ago, UK had decided that the Aston Martin brand be declared the coolest brand in the country. The event was actually held at the Gymnasium which is located in King’s Cross. And the CoolLive event is a part of the initiatives of CoolBrands from the Superbrands organization. The industry believes that this Superbrands organization is actually a really important so as to recognize which brands, people, or places are the coolest in the United Kingdom.

So who chooses which brands should be recognized? Well, the answer is that it is the CoolBrands council who actually do the judging. They simply do not base the judging on which has become popular during the moment. The council actually based their judging on which brands have actually been able to successfully create the coolest reputation in a given amount of time. It was not Taylor Wires who received the recognition nor Kleen Wheels. It was Aston Martin who successfully been chosen as the brand that has become the coolest.

MTV presenter Trevor Nelson who also works as a DJ at Radio One was one of the members of the CoolBrands council. Other members include Ben de Lisi the designer and Nicki Bidder, the editor of Dazed and Confused. Their judgment also contained some additional information from YouGov. YouGov is considered to be the most accurate research agency in the United Kingdom and this organization took care of the hard work of actually asking consumers which brands they considered as “CoolBrands”.

So why was Aston Martin chosen? Well, it is very inspiring to note that this brand has actually not been afraid of initiating change. And when the brand was now led by Dr. Ulrich Bez as its CEO, the brand took in a great amount of transformation. Now, the brand boasts of three leaders in each of their segments the Vanquish S, the V8 Vantage, and the DB9. Each vehicle that the brand markets are class leading and have been created to be quality vehicles.
